24 Hours with Masu

Istanbul with Ege captures a few days spent discovering the city with our friend Ege, who grew up there. From ferry rides across the Bosphorus and long Turkish breakfasts to simit, fish dürüm and walks through the city, the painting brings together the small moments that shaped our trip.

Alongside the food and everyday scenes, fragments of Istanbul’s history found their way into the work, including the ancient columns and Medusa heads of the Basilica Cistern. Together, they capture my memory of a city that felt incredibly warm, lively and full of layers, and one we already knew we wanted to return to.
