O & T’s Day

O & T’s Day was created as a memory of a wedding in an old Irish castle. The painting brings together fragments of the celebration, from flowers, food and hands around the tables to the wonderfully unexpected wedding cake covered in gummy bears and Smarties.

For the first time, I incorporated materials connected to the day directly into the painting. Pieces of textile, buttons and other small details sit alongside the painted elements, giving the work a tactile, three-dimensional quality. Like many of my paintings, it works almost like a diary entry, holding onto the small details that made the celebration its own.
